Training Diaries

My personal running adventures. Read below to learn about my training and read past race recaps.

I Won’t Sugar Coat It

I waited to write this race recap until the emotions of the day had settled. My alarm went off at 5:15 a.m. The first thing I heard was the sound of torrential rain. I hit snooze. At 5:45 I peeled myself out of bed in search of breakfast. I scarfed down a english muffin with almond butter and went back to sleep on the couch. Upon waking I sought refuge in twitter. All I found on twitter was … [Read more...] about I Won’t Sugar Coat It

Coogan’s 5k Race Recap

I woke up bright and early to drag the Husband to Washington Heights for the most fun race I've ran in many years. The Coogan's Salsa, Blues and Shamrock 5k did not disappoint in any form or fashion. There were bands along the course, a scenic view of the cloisters and nice challenging hills. Any chance you noticed that my bib is red and not yellow? That means for this race I was promoted … [Read more...] about Coogan’s 5k Race Recap

Manhattan 1/2 Race Recap

Yesterday was my third Manhattan 1/2 Marathon. It was a close to perfect day for a race. The best part of this race was the proximity of the start line to my bed (approximately 10 blocks). I left home at 7:30 to make sure that I got to my corral on time. As I walked to the park the early morning streets of Manhattan were taken over by the quiet bustling of runners. The corral system is based on … [Read more...] about Manhattan 1/2 Race Recap

Running without a Mantra

I heard once that running is 20% physical and 80% mental.  Your mental game can make or break your run on any given day.  One way to combat this is with your own personal mantra.  My running mantra happens to made up of numbers instead of letters. Yep that's right, I count. Here's the crazy part of my counting... I count to 100 5x.  When I'm running long distances, I count to 100 5x for 5x.  … [Read more...] about Running without a Mantra
