Say it, Do it! {fall training}

It's been quite some time since I've done a SIDI post. During my longest training period of my life, I grew superstitious and needed to shut-up about marathon training. I'm feeling a bit that way right now, but I'm also trying to realize that the whole point of SIDI is accountability. This past weekend I ran my first "real" miles in seven weeks. On Sunday, I huffed and puffed my way through six … [Read more...] about Say it, Do it! {fall training}

Race Pace Training Diaries: Meet Brittany

Hey Fit Chick in the City readers! My name is Brittany and I’m a longtime fan of Jess’s blog. In November I’ll be running my first marathon and I’m so excited to have Jess as my running coach. Let me give you a little background on how I got started running. Two years ago a coworker asked me to run a 4-mile race. I didn't know anything about running or racing, but figured why not. For a few … [Read more...] about Race Pace Training Diaries: Meet Brittany

Progress Report

I've officially graduated from running on the Alter G! Last Wednesday I was able to run at 85% of my body weight for the last eight minutes of my 30 minute run. Naturally, after work I went on a test run in Central Park. I ran/walked around the Great Lawn (800 meters) with great success. That doesn't mean I'm ready to go full force though. I still feel a bit of soreness in my ankle. I'm … [Read more...] about Progress Report

HIIT Workout, Nike Free Bionic & An Announcement

Have you guys heard about Nike's newest training shoe, the Nike Free Bionic? This shoe isn't made for running, but it is made for HIIT workouts and for strength training. After San Diego, I had grand plans to take a break from running and check out the newest HIIT training studio on the Upper East Side, The Fhitting Room but that has yet to happen. I'm hoping this ankle heals in the next few … [Read more...] about HIIT Workout, Nike Free Bionic & An Announcement

10 Years with NYRR & How Running Has Changed for Me Since Then

Recently, I noticed I've been a member of the New York Road Runners for ten years! Kinda crazy how time flies. Kinda crazy how doing one sport over and over again never gets boring!   In honor of my tenth year of being a NYRR member here are ten ways my running has changed in the past ten years. #1) I no longer run in cotton ever. Not even to catch a bus. #2) When I'm injured I seek help. … [Read more...] about 10 Years with NYRR & How Running Has Changed for Me Since Then

Recipes That Won’t Leave You Sweating in the Kitchen

Cooking at home in the summer can be challenging. My kitchen gets so hot I feel like I just got back from a three mile run by the time the meal is complete. Last summer, I either ordered takeout or ate smoothies for most meals. This year I'm determined to make healthful meals at home that don't cause the temps in my apartment to reach above 80 degrees.   * Side note: I dream of one day … [Read more...] about Recipes That Won’t Leave You Sweating in the Kitchen
