Summer Fitness Goals

Seriously, where does the time go? If anyone has any way of slowing down the year 2012 please let me know!

I feel like I’ve grown so much in the past six months of this year. Mostly, I’m learning to trust in my ability to fulfill my dreams. There are definitely days I still doubt myself, but I believe in myself more and more each day.

Now, let’s check-in on the fitness goals I set for April-June. Below are my goals and how I fared.

  • Get rid of this hamstring injury for once and for all with the help of Finish Line Physical Therapy!! I’m almost there! I thought I was completely healed, but after three weeks without therapy I’m heading back again this week.
  • Complete the More/Fitness 1/2 marathon and be okay with not pr-ing.  Done and done!
  • Complete the Nashville Country Music 1/2 marathon at race pace. Hmm.. Didn’t even know I set this goal, but my pace was sub marathon goal pace.
  • Continue to record all workouts in dailymile. 100% complete!
  • Complete my legs of Reach the Beach MA and have fun! Consider it done!
  • Do speed workouts once a week leading up to marathon training. Failed miserably.
  • Continue eating the foods that fuel me the best. Not perfect, but I’m getting better at this.

I have fewer fitness goals for July-September, but I’m still excited to tackle them!

  • Make/try a new recipe once a week.
  • Read a fiction book (okay not fitness related, but good for taking a brain break from work)
  • Follow my New York City Marathon training plan, but adjust as needed by listening to my body’s needs.
  • Run a strong race in Philly at the Rock’n’Roll 1/2 marathon
  • Do PT strength training exercise 3x a week.

Did you set any summer specific fitness goals? Do you normally read fiction or non-fiction books?

I set some goals this summer. I really want to get my arms in shape, so my goal is to do as many new arm exercises as I can, without burning out those muscles! I Also want to explore new ab exercises so I can feel good in a bikini on vacation 🙂
As for books, I love fiction, and that’s really all I read. I’m on summer book number two right now, and I’m loving it. It’s called “Daddy’s Girl”, it’s a mystery (my favorite).

I’ll have to look it up. Maybe a good mystery novel is just what I need!

I would like to get rid of my weird tendency to pig out on crap once per week. It’s a crutch left over from “cheat day” mentality that I don’t need or want in my life any longer. I am so good 80 percent of the time…if I could get it to 89 or 90 I would be in the perfect range of fit for myself. So…I guess that’s my summer goal.

Me too! I don’t need a cheat day but I still find myself overdoing it once a week.

Great goals for getting through the dog days of summer.

I’d say you kicked your April – June goals in the buns! Way to knock some out of the park.

I like how you hold yourself accountable with these goals, good thinking.

My summer goal is to try to keep training in the early morning hours as much as possible, soaking up the beauty of summer sunlight.

Those are great goals! I am not so good about creating goals for myself…I need to get on that!

I’ve been reading Young Adult fiction this summer because they are such easy reads. Have you read The Hunger Games? I know almost everyone has, but I recently read Divergent which is similar and I think I liked it better!

Yay for FinishLine PT! 🙂 they’ve been helping me keep me plantar fasciitis in check, though like you I need to remember to keep up the exercises.

I’ve got a few goals this summer

    – Increase flexibility
    – Start doing yoga twice a week
    – Get ready for a half ironman in october.

I’ve been kind of hampered by a sciatic nerve issue and slight pain in my right knee..but so far right on track!
