My household isn’t exactly chemical-free, but over the past several years my husband and I have been making the switch to healthier household cleaning products and beauty items.
Our first change was in our cleaning agents that we used for basic household chores. When neither of us could stand being in the bathroom while cleaning the tub because of the chemicals, we knew we had to switch even if it meant spending more money.
It took us five years to start doing the same with other things like shampoo and sunscreen (and what little make-up I use is definitely still full of junk).
Since I don’t really know that much about the ingredients on the bottles of moisturizers I finally decided to give coconut oil a try for a few weeks.
Here’s what I learned:
- The best time to use it is after an evening shower or when you can postpone getting dressed as it can be a little messy if I use too much oil.
- It only takes a small amount to cover a large surface of the body.
- I love the ritual of using a “product” that nourishes my body yet isn’t food nor exercise. (self care for the win!)
- Coconut oil delivers vitamin E to the skin and the fatty acids contained within it moisturize the skin in an extremely effective way.
I may never go back to using traditional moisturizers on a regular basis. I can’t wait to see how using the coconut oil helps my skin once the dryness of winter starts.
In the comments share what type of self care activity you’re doing on a regular basis that isn’t food or exercise related.

As dorky as it may sound, I try and make time to “let myself” take care of my nails. I’ll give myself a little manicure. It’s the combination of self-care and the feeling of pampering that makes it worthwhile.

So I’ve been hearing all these great things about coconut oil as a moisturizer and also good for eczema which I have. Do you use it on your face too? Or just body?

I use coconut oil as a face moisturizer too!! I love the way my face feels the next day. Sometimes I put it in my hair too-I have dry curly hair so this helps it feel nice and soft in the morning.

As I continue to grow at an obscene rate, I’ll rub anything over myself, lol.
I’m hooked on Burt’s Bees, have to give coconut a try!

I’m a coconut oil lover. I use it for everything including as a night-time facial moisturizer. It’s been wonderful for me.

For me lately has been my self-care ritual of lighting really nice candles that smell delicious into my room. i feel transported to another world.
