Redemption?
A comeback?
A new p.r.?
What is the strategy for Sunday?
#1) To ignore my ego.
#2) To acknowledge that my training may have not been full of hill repeats and speed workouts, but I’ve had some pretty solid 8,9,10, and 12 mile runs. Which means 13.1 should be okay.
#3) To focus this 13.1 mile effort as a training run for the Nashville 1/2. (key words: training run)
#4) To leave my watch at home.
#5) To have fun, smile, soak up the endorphins, enjoy the company and appreciate my body for all it enables me to do.
I’ve been wearing my Erica Sara 26.2 race bling to remind me that the race that’s most important to my heart and the reason I’m running these half marathons isn’t until November, but the hard work starts now.
For the record:
It most certainly is a comeback.
And those new p.r.’s… well I’ll be chasing those down later this year.

LOVE where your head is at race-wise my friend! I need to channel this BIG TIME!! (PS I can’t wait to get some race bling from Erica Sara after my 26.2 this fall, ahhhh!)

I love this post. Not because it features a piece of my jewelry (although that doesn’t hurt š ), but because in so few words, you touched on so many important things. #1, the ego. I love that we’re in the same place with this… the less you let your ego take over, the less likely you are to sabotage your success. It’s amazing what the mind can do! You are making an amazing comeback from injury and I have a feeling you are going to kick ass this weekend. Just wish I could be there to cheer you on but you know I’ll be there in spirit!!!XO!

I think racing with this mentality is the way to go. For my last half (coming back from injuries) it was just about running with my husband and finishing. And it was a better race – no nerves, no pressure, just enjoying the experience.
