{If you’re new to SIDI here’s some info: At the beginning of each week on FCITC “Say it, Do it” is a chance for us to commit to our workouts for the week by saying them out loud here and keeping each other accountable.}
It’s race week here in NYC. The More/Fitness Magazine is one week from today! Later this week I’ll share my race day strategy as well as something a little special for you guys.
Since we didn’t do a normal “Say it, Do it!” last week, below are a few highlights from my week.
Favorite work moment: Teaching class on this deck in Times Square
New obsession: Getting a lab
That’s Miles from Finish Line Physical Therapy. He was in the office on Friday when I went for my appointment. I’m now obsessed with getting a dog, preferably a friendly lab.
Say it, Do it Race Week:
- Run all my miles early in the week (total miles for the week 26)
- 3 days of core
- 2 complete rest days
- 1 spin
- Stretch 7 days
- PT Exercises 7 days
Anything new you’re obsessed with this week? What’s your SIDI for this week?
I hope you all had a great holiday weekend!
Kelly Anne says
You should TOTALLY GET A LAB! I have a three-year-old yellow lab and getting her was really one of the best decisions my husband and I ever made.
Most importantly, she is the best running partner I could ask for!
Jan says
Labs are very nice dogs! Check out a rescue if you haven’t considered it. Humane societies are typically full of labs/lab mixes (because it’s such a common breed) and there are lab-specific rescues, too.
I’m obssessed with Butterfinger eggs this weekend. 🙂
My SIDI for the week is 4 miles Tues., walk Wed., track workout Thurs., cross-country race Friday, long run Sunday. And a mt. bike ride in there somewhere I hope.
Jess says
Butterfinger eggs??? I’ve never heard of those!
We can’t actually get a lab, but I really really want one!
jassy says
it’s a very nice view, i love it! 🙂
labs are playful, right? such energy 🙂
Michelle says
Wow! Been reading on my phone so I missed the new sidebar picture..It looks fab!!
No plan for me this week! Volunteering with kids in the sticks for most of the week so hopefully a few early morning runs and hoping chasing them around all week makes up the rest! Good luck at the 1/2 this weekend! I’m sure you’ll kick butt!
Jess says
Thank you! Sounds like a great week!
Sam @ Mom At The Barre says
Just noticed the new pic also! Has it been there a while? You look great!
I completely fell off the bandwagon with my workouts last week.
As far as a new obsession, ginger beer! Note: different from ginger ale.
This week, I’m planning 4 Physique 57 classes and hopefully one Refine method class.
Jess says
It’s new! Thanks, Sam! Have a great week.
Nichole says
Big puppy for a NYC apartment:)
That Times Square shot is amazing.
Can’t wait to hear more about your race plans – so excited for you!
Jess says
I know… we can’t actually have a big puppy in our apt., but a girl can dream!
Jess says
My big thing this week is fitting in some yoga to stretch out some really tired legs from upping the miles in preparation for the half marathon on May 6. So I woke up today and did just that, forgoing the speed work I had hoped to get done. My legs are thanking me 🙂
Otherwise, I plan to hit up four barre n9ne classes this week and get four runs in, including my long run on Saturday which will be in the 12.5 mile range. I’m excited for it!
YAY for race week btw!
Jody - Fit at 54 says
Labs are so cute! Looks like a good plan for this week!
Me – having dental work that will sideline me for at least 5 days SO, making the workouts I get in before that count! 🙂
Amber says
I wants a doggie too. My husband and I have a deal and I’m not quite ready to make the sacrifices required to hold up my end of the deal. So I wait.
I love the picture too!
My latest obsession is Detox Yoga at CSOY. I’m loving this class. Right now I have a new student membership but that expires this week and I haven’t decided if I am going to pony up for a real membership or not. I need to crunch some numbers today.
This week, I have planned a lovely swim (check!), a tempo workout, a track workout, a 10k workout, and a 10 mile run. And of course two Detox Yoga sessions. I just hope my legs hold up. They are SORE today.

i can’t believe it’s race week.. i am so looking forward to Sunday. I don’t know how much I should or shouldn’t run prior to race day. MY SIDI for this week is monday (6 mile run), tuesday (walk), thursday (8 mile), saturday (walk), Sunday (Race Day 🙂 i’m a bit late but lately i am obsessed with the nook tablet i just received for my birthday.. can’t wait to hear your race day plans..
Jess says
Hey, Cassie! I’m not sure what your training schedule has looked like, but you just want to make sure you feel fresh on race day, but not stiff. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you out there on Sunday!

I remember the days when I was obsessed with getting a dog – but waiting for the right time will make it all the sweeter. My dog is one of the best things in my life and going to pick her up as a 12 week old pup was one of my husband and my happiest days!!
I had a crazy vacation week of workouts last week: 2 days skiing Mt. Hood & Mt. Bachelor, 1 day bouldering at The Circuit rock gym, 2 days running, 1 day of Bikram Yoga, and finished off the week with an 8 mile hike with my Mom. I only wish every week could be so much fun 🙂
This week I’m back in NYC & upping my mileage for running. My goal is to do 25 miles in the beautiful springtime weather. I’m supposed to be trying Crossfit for the first time this weekend, but to be honest, I’m not sure I can commit to the cost and I don’t know if I should be distracting myself from running. Any insights?
Jess says
If running is your goal and you feel that Crossfit would be distracting for you then you are probably correct. Listen to your gut instincts, they are usually correct!
Juliette @ Finish Your Broccoli says
I only have a month left of training for the 10-mile race I’m doing in Philly (Broad Street Run). I did 6 miles over the weekend, my longest distance since the Rock ‘n’ Roll 10K I did in Brooklyn last October, and I felt great! This week I have some shorter runs, along with the UXF (CrossFit-style) class I’m doing at NYSC.
Mon: 4 miles
Tues: 3 miles
Wed: UXF class at NYSC
Thurs: 3 miles
Fri: UXF class at NYSC
Sat: rest
Sun: rest
Jess says
Sounds like your training is right on track! Nice job!
Molly says
This is taper week for me, I’m running the More Half too!!
I have a black lab mixed with some kind of terrier, we think pit bull. He’s a great running partner, and must be sitting next to one of us At All Times 🙂
Jess says
Oh my goodness… that is amazing! Love it.
Good luck on Sunday!
Laura @ Joyful Shimmy says
Good luck with the raise this week! Woo hoo!
So here is my Say It Do It… I am committing to the following:
– Monday: Pilates
– Tuesday: IntenSati
– Wednesday: Shrink Session
– Friday: Barre Burn
I am in school this weekend so it should be fun. I have been also doing 90 days of morning meditation which has been great addition to my day. I am committing to making it through day 15-21 with grace.
