Runner’s World Big Book of Marathon and Half-Marathon Training

As you can imagine in a household of two trainers we have a large collection of fitness/health related books. I go through phases with them. At times it’s all I read (in addition to memoirs). Other times I can’t even imagine looking at another work related book.

Right now I’ve been devouring every work related book I’ve come across. One of those books was the Runner’s World Big Book of Marathon and Half-Marathon Training. It arrived on my doorstep just before I began creating my marathon training plan.

The book is based off the Runner’s World Challenge, a comprehensive training program for marathons and half-marathons created by the editor’s at Runner’s World. Written by running experts Bart Yasso, Jennifer Van Allen and Amby Burfoot, the book is packed full of valuable knowledge. These seasoned runners let novice runners in on the finer details of completing long distance races without having to look in multiple places for information.

Topics covered include nutrition, taper week, race day tips, injury prevention, and more. The book also includes six different training plans (beginner, intermediate and advanced marathon and half-marathon plans) as well as a three day eating plan.

I’m not new to the running game, but I found that reading this book was a great refresher and even reminded me of a few of the things I had forgotten over time.

If you’re looking to run your first marathon or half-marathon this is the perfect place to start. I’ve already recommended it to a client who will be running their first half-marathon at age 60 this summer and they found it invaluable.

{Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. I received a complimentary copy of the book from Runner’s World.}

    When I was learning about running years ago Runner’s World was my go to, and here I am now still using their site. I love the Smart Coach app and training plans.

    I bet this book is amazing!

    Oh, this book looks fantastic. I’ve seen it on a couple blog posts and I’m starting to consider getting it! By the way, I’d love to look at your library and read all of your books. I am addicted to reading fitness/health books.

    Whoa! I never knew they came out with a training book! I found this site that gives actionplans for marathons. You just follow the schedule, record your miles for the day. It’s great to have everything on your computer where you can see your progress. The site is called moteevate.com, check them out.
