Race Pace Training Diaries: Trust Yourself

Training Diaries

The fall edition of Race Pace Training Diaries follows Brittany, a Race Pace Runner, on her journey of training for her first marathon, the New York City Marathon on November 3rd. Learn more about Brittany here or follow her daily adventures on twitter.

It’s so surreal that after months of training, the big day is almost here! If you had asked me 15 weeks ago what I was most nervous about, I would’ve said injury and burnout. Somehow I managed to avoid both those things (knock on wood I don’t trip and hurt myself in the next few days), but I’m still kind of freaking out!

Looking back over my training at all the hard work I’ve put in is helping relieve my nerves. I know at this point I just have to “trust my training”.

Okay okay I guess I trust this!

I think because my training went well, I’m now starting to come up with all these “what-if” scenarios. I know anything can happen on marathon day and it scares me!

I was talking to Jess this weekend about a few of my fears, such as falling or getting dehydrated, and she simply told me to come up with a plan for how I would handle each of these situations. That seems doable right? I definitely “trust my training” and now it’s time to trust myself!

Marathon Weather
Looking good, albeit a little cold for my Floridian bones!

I think I’m ready to stop stressing and start getting excited! Two of my best friends are coming in town this weekend and I can’t wait to share the weekend’s festivities with them!

Since it’s my first marathon, I’m not worried about a specific goal time. I’m still talking with Jess about a pacing plan, but I’ll most likely just run it by feel. I want to make sure I take in the all the sights, the crowd, and everything else there is to experience while running the New York City Marathon!

If you want to follow along with me on marathon day, my bib # is 46231. I’m in Wave 3 and should be starting a little after 10:30am. You can track runners for free through the phone app or online!

If everything goes as planned, next week I’ll be a marathoner and I can’t wait to tell you how it went!
