Thank You: The New York City Marathon Edition

This isn’t going to be a marathon recap, I’ll save that for Brittany.

When I registered for the New York City Marathon in the spring of 2011, I had no idea I’d have to wait until 2013 to actually run this race. One really bad race and one BQ later, I now know that the 2013 race was the one I was meant to run from the beginning.

The 2013 New York City Marathon was perfect in every way. There’s nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said about this race, so instead I want to say thank you to everyone involved, especially these people:

#1. Melissa: If it weren’t for that accidental 16 mile run on a random Friday, I wouldn’t have ran this race. Somehow she was able to put up with me for eight hours straight on marathon day (that says a lot). I mostly kept my excitement under control as to not be an annoying running buddy, but as you can see occasionally I let a wee bit of excitement show. (photo via Ashley)

This was the first time I’ve ran a marathon with someone and I’ve only ran a handful of races at someone else’s pace so it was an interesting experience. After Sunday, I definitely want to lead pace groups in shorter distances in the near future.

#2. Everyone who donated to Girls on the Run on my behalf.

#3. The city of New York: you were kind, generous and cheered on strangers. After  last year, I wasn’t sure the marathon would ever be the same. New York you proved me wrong.

#4. New York Road Runners: They did everything they could to improve communication, improve the race and keep us safe. The strides they took this year were noticeable and they did a fantastic job!

#5. My Husband: He puts up with my shit day in and day out and somehow manages to not toss me to the curb when I get all crazy in the brain in the weeks leading up to a marathon. I owe him everything.

What’s next on my race calendar?

Thanks to New Balance and their partnership with Run Disney I’m heading to Orlando, Florida this week for the first time since fifth grade to run the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon!

What’s left on your race calendar? If you’ve ever thought about running the New York City Marathon, do it!

Sounds like a fabulous day! I’m so happy that everyone had such great experiences on Sunday, it’s so inspiring! You were within a minute or two of my step father for practically the entire race, and I kept looking for you, but never saw you. 🙁 Great job! Hopefully I’ll join the ranks in 2014!

That’s too funny! I’m not always easy to spot in large crowds. Definitely run it in 2014!
