Most likely you’ve heard about many of the Brooks sponsored athletes such as marathoner Desi Davila and ultra marathoner Scott Jurek. But, what you may know is that Brooks also has a team of everyday athletes called Brooks I.D. (inspire daily).
The members of this group are coaches, mentors and leaders. Some win age group awards, while others are winning the war with other personal struggles. They are inspirational people who definitely inspire daily.
I recently spoke with Diane Groff, a two time breast cancer survivor, runner, triathlete, and overall sports enthusiast.
Here’s her inspiring story:
I have always enjoyed running, and ran in college to be a stronger Alpine Ski Racer. I celebrated my 22 birthday by running 22 miles over the Continental Divide in the Grand Tetons. Running is great. And, then with kids, we did local family fun runs.
Becoming a cancer survivor made me realize, this is the one life we get, so I better be a good steward to my body and make the most of it.
Team Survivor invited me to do my first all Woman’s Triathlon in Denver. I signed up with a team of three people. While I was waiting in the transition area for the run portion, I quickly realized… I can do all of this. I’ve completed dozens of triathlons ever since.
I can truly say, “I am a cancer survivor AND that made me a triathlete.”
I celebrated my fifth year cancer free by competing in the entire Women’s Danskin Tri Series, 8 races in 8 cities. I met the amazing women of Team Survivor, my peers and my inspiration to keep on thriving.
My daughter, Marilyn, who is now 25 years old, completed many Danskin Triathlons with me. Marilyn continues to be my biggest inspiration. I want to live my life with authenticity. She is a genuine friend, loyal daughter, and loving wife. She is the kindest and most compassionate person, and I am humbled that she is our daughter.
Interviewing Diane was a highlight for me this month. Relatives on both sides of my family fought the battle with breast cancer and lost. Hearing Diane’s story was truly inspirational.

I am a cancer survivor and I love playing football. Although I suffer from it, it wont stop me from doing what I like.

This is truly inspiring! My aunt who is a marathoner is also a cancer survivor. When I visited her in the hospital, I could feel her pain but I admire her courage. She’s okay now and told me that we must value life and live with love.
