Going Back For {the} More {Fitness Magazine 1/2 Marathon}

What memories do you have of your worst running race?

Did you learn anything from that race?

What made that race stand out from other “bad races” that made it your worst?

Thanks Jess, for such a positive start to this blog post.

If you’ve ran a number of races you probably have one race that stands out as being “the bad one”.

My bad run happened on April 25, 2010 at the More/Fitness Magazine 1/2 Marathon. You can read all the glories details here or spare yourself with a quick summary: It was raining and cold. I felt like $#!T. I complained a lot, then I cried and cried some more.

When you ran that bad race, did you plan revenge or swear that specific race off forever?

I don’t know about you, but I did the mature thing… I swore that race off for good.

That was until a few weeks ago. When in my inbox was a lovely email from someone at Fitness Magazine asking if I was interested in covering the race (for FCITC) or running the race.

To me, that email was a call to action. I could hit delate and pretend I never saw it. Or I could take it on as a sign that this was a race that was meant to be conquered once and for all.

Guess what I did?

I didn’t hit delete. Instead I said “sign me up, cause I’m going to own the More/Fitness 1/2 marathon and teach Central Park a thing or two.”

You’re right, those weren’t my exact words, but those are my exact thoughts.

I’m planning revenge and it happens on April 15, 2012.

Go Jess! That was the 1st of 2 Half Marathons that I had to pull out of due to injury. Good luck!

Love it, Jess! Good for you! Though I’ll miss cheering with you on the sidelines this year!

And to answer your question: I hated every single second of the Fairfield Half Marathon and at the finish line swore I would never run that race again. I still don’t feel the need for a revenge-fueled return, but perhaps you’ve inspired me to rethink that a bit.

Excited for you to run the half — I’ll still be out cheering, just without you as my partner in spectating crime!

Awesome!! I kind of feel that way about my first half marathon. I’d like to go back and show it whose boss now. It’s on my tentative race schedule for 2012 🙂

That’s so great! Good for you. I’ll be running that race too and I’m super excited for it. One of my least favorite races was the Plymouth Half – so many rolling hills! The other was the Manhattan Half back in 2002 where I think they made us run the northern hills in Central Park 3 times. I’m hoping that the More/Fitness Magazine half doesn’t take that same route!

The More/Fitness this year will be my first 1/2! My step-mom ran that same year and I remember her freezing and drenched.

I’ll be running this race too! I won free entry from an Athleta twitter giveaway! I was supposed to run it in 2010 but then I injured myself (stress fracture in my foot!) and had to drop out!

    good for you!
my first marathon was an eye opening experience. I said I would never run one again (that clearly didn’t happen as I’m training for my third right now). But as hard as that race was, “the bad race” would actually have to be a 5K I ran a couple of years ago. I didnt actually end up doing that poorly, and it was over quick, but it was one of the worst feeling runs I’ve ever had
