Brooklyn 1/2 Marathon Race Recap

First off thank you for all of your encouragement the past few weeks! Let’s just say that this race was a lot better than the last one. It wasn’t raining and my feet nor my hands went numb. =)

In summary this is how my race went:

Picture 39.png
Looks like somebody crashed and burned. πŸ˜‰
I don’t know what happened but I couldn’t seem to slow down and get into a rhythm. I started crashing around mile 8 and stopped for a drink. I stopped again at mile 9. When I say stop, I mean I stood behind the water station and drank a cup of gatorade or water, stretched and talked myself into running again.
Mile 10 I thought okay only a 10k to go, but at mile 11 I walked for a good two minutes. When I passed the 12 mile marker I realized that if I toughed it out I could make my goal time.

And I DID!!!!! Official finish time was 1:45:35 a new PR!!!

A few brave runners took an post run ice bath in the water. I realize ice baths are great for recovery, but I can’t do it.

I’m happy to say that my next 1/2 isn’t until August!!!

Yay! Well done πŸ™‚ I don’t blame you for not braving the sea, May is not the month to take a dip!

Congratulations! And as far as the water’s concerned… it LOOKED nice, but hypothermia isn’t worth it.

You rock!! I’m *so* not surprised you did well.
I was one of the runners who went into the water (up to my knees). Honestly, it felt great. It made me consider the possibility of maybe, maybe taking an ice bath sometime…

Congrats on the race! Sometimes the mental aspect of running is the most difficult. I’m glad you were able to talk yourself into pushing it at the end!

Congrats on a new PR! It wasn’t an easy day or a particularly easy course, so you should be doubly proud. And picking it up towards the end is tough. I didn’t brave the water either…I don’t care what they say about New York beaches being clean.

CONGRATS JESS!! That’s fabulous. Despite stopping a few times, you didn’t allow yourself to stop completely, and you kept going, for that you should be VERY proud. I can only imagine how hard it must have been. Next time, in August, it will be easier just because you’ve done it before now.

That guy sprinting behind you looks hilarious.

I don’t blame you, I don’t think I’d be able to jump into ice cold water either!
