A New Challenge: New Balance Reach the Beach Relay

Oh… let’s see when was the last time I ran a relay race? Middle school, maybe? I don’t know, but when you say the word “relay” all I can think is, “Don’t drop the baton!”

Relay races which are all the rage right now, aren’t something I gave much thought until reading about Susan’s adventures at Hood to Coast last summer. Reading her posts made me long for a relay team of my own. A few weeks ago, I got an invitation from Tina to join her Reach the Beach Relay team, Team Off Balance. Before I knew it, I had just added my first relay race to my race calendar!

The Race:

This particular race begins in Wachusett, MA and ends in Westport, MA. If you’re like me and have no idea where those two places are, you should know they are 200 miles apart. The race takes place over the course of 24-hours with each team member running three legs of the race.

Our team lead by Tina and made up of 12 female bloggers is sponsored by New Balance!

If you’re like me and know nothing about what to expect when spending 24-hours in a van with sweaty runners, check out Lauren’s (aka Health on the Run) blog for tips

I can barely run at night, so this will be an interesting adventure.  I look forward to sharing every sweaty detail with you in May!

New Balance hooked our team up with some fantastic gear for the race and is hooking you up with a discount code, NBRTB12A, that’s good for 15% off and free shipping at shopnewbalance.com. It is valid from now until March 30, 2012.

So fun! I’m sure you guys will be in a different start group than we will be, but I hope we see you there!

Relays! Such a crazy, yet amazingly fun time. Soak it up, realize you’re not going to sleep, and enjoy the night runs, they’re the best! I did RTB last year with Lauren and it was a crazy good time.

I’ve always been SO intrigued by the concept of a team relay like this – I’d LOVE to do one sometime, especially Reach the Beach since its pretty local for me. SO FUN! I can’t wait to hear all about it!

Interested in doing the NH one with me? Sept 14-15… I need teammates and we’d be sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association. “Run to Remember” – they pay the reg fee, we commit to raising $4,000 as a team! Let me know!
