What I Love About Running Right Now

I love the community, the virtual ones are just as great as the real life ones.

I love that hard work pays off.

I love the cooler temps.

I love finally finding out that someone I know is going to be in my start corral at the marathon.

I love walking into Lululemon and being asked what race I need an outfit for.

I love setting running goals with clients.

I love their determination.

I love cheering them on.

I love the unknown factors and the “what ifs” about racing almost as much as I hate them.

What do you love about running right now?

I love running at this time of year, too! The leaves are changing and there’s a crispness in the air. It makes running feel so good!

Mmmm…I love how strong I feel after a run. Speaking of which, I’m going to get going! 🙂

I love finally being able to run with my pup again. She doesn’t do hot weather. I love running through central park on the west side at 8 pm 50 degrees and seeing the lit up city reflect off the lake.

In Portland I’m enjoying that it still isn’t raining. Though I enjoy running in the rain it’s nice that summer is still going strong here, but nice that the mornings are cooler.

The other thing I love about running is that it always gives me the chance to connect with nature, be out in my neighborhood, and breathe deeply.

The cool weather is so refreshing after a summer where I couldn’t run without looking like I’d just taken a shower!

I love this post… for lots of reasons, but mostly because it frames things so perfectly — what I love about running changes all the time. It changes with the season and it changes with where I am in my training… even if that means coming off of a dormant few months.

After turning 30 last week, I decided it was time to jump back in the saddle. The last time I ran seriously it was a personal best (let’s keep things modest… I beat already low self-set expectations) and ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon in D.C. — this time, I was lucky to make it 20 minutes straight in hilly S.F. and, no joke, was passed at one point by a woman walking her three-legged dog: http://thedillydaily.wordpress.com/2012/09/23/three-things-my-30th-thus-far/

I’ve decided it means I have room to grow… one of my favorite things about running right now, that even at your worst, it just means there’s room for improvement. And nothing is bad about improvement.
