More than 24 hours past my 18-miler and I’m still gloating. I really didn’t know if I had it in me. In the past 5 years I’ve failed to get past the 16-mile mark during long runs more often than I care to admit.
People assume that because I’m a runner and I’ve been running for the majority of my life that I’ve ran a ton a of marathons. Well, the truth is I’ve ran three; one I didn’t train for, one I ran while injured (I was young & dumb what can I say), and one where I over did it on Gatorade and made 11 port-a-potty stops.
I’m hoping this one I’m training for now can be added on to the end of that list as “the one I trained my heart out for.”

Is that tagline a tshirt? I want it.
I am so proud of you already – keep up the training and you’ll be aces in your race.
You are going to crush it! So happy for ya!

I hear ya! I ran quite a few marathons before I felt like a real marathoner & even know I don’t fully trust myself. Marathons are always nerve wracking and challenging b/c you never know what will happen- how the course or weather will be, if you have a good run day or not. It’s part of the adventure & excitement. I’ve come to realize I enjoy it to have a fun run- smile, take photos, wave at people, and just be silly instead of racing against the clock. That’s just me & my race, but I’ve turned in a PR time I”m proud of & now I’m running for fun 🙂

I hope you have a great marathon! People think I have done so many races but there was only the one I quit because I didn`t want to collapse (110 degrees, no shade, empty water stations, horrible organisation) and the one I didn`t know my team members (a relay race). My next race might be a Half Marathon in two weeks or a shorter race in 3. Let`s see how it goes.
Congrats on the 18 miles!
