Running found me at an early age. I experienced my first runner’s high when I was barely a teenager and it changed my life. There was no way of knowing at the age of thirteen that my career trajectory had been set.
Running gave me something I never knew I could have – a changed outlook on life and my place in this world. Today in my thirties I credit those first years of running as to why I’ve lived the life I’ve lived thus far.
Girls on the Run NYC is a non-profit organization that changes the way young girls see themselves and the world they live in while training for a 5K twice a year. I’m not sure there’s another organization whose mission so closely mimics my own (though, I work with adults).
After being a GOTR NYC coach for four seasons, I feel deeply connected to the program and want to continue to support the organization by raising funds that will help fund the program so they can continue to develop and deliver programs to girls across the city.
I’m excited to announce that on November 3, 2013 I’ll be running the New York City Marathon as a Girls on the Run SoleMate!
I ran the race for the first time ten years ago. Training and running for that specific race had significant meaning and helped me to put some of my past demons behind me for good. This year, I don’t want to run the race “just for me”. I want to run the race for all those girls out there who need an organization like Girls on the Run to change their lives.

Awesome! It is such a great organization–I’ve buddy run several times here at our local chapter’s 5k. I’m sure it will make the day that much more special for you.
