Say it, Do it! {when your marathon might get cancelled}

Oh my goodness! The past several days have been all kinds of amazing and I have tons to tell you about the next few days including recaps of the More Fitness Half Marathon and the Sports Bra Challenge.

But, for now let’s back up to Friday morning.

I woke up to an email form the Race Directors of Run for the Red, titled “Important Run for the Red Announcement – PLEASE READ”.

Basically this marathon is in jeopardy of being cancelled due to construction along the course. The race director mapped out a new course but it may or may not be approved on April 22. With the race being on May 19th, and with the cancellation of the New York City Marathon last year, living in limbo while I continue to power through long runs is not my cup of marathon tea.

Even if that race is approved here’s a view of the elevation of the new route along with the old route.

Run for the Red

Regardless, I just spent an hour re-writing my training schedule once again for a different race. Ashley and I agreed we can’t handle the stress surrounding Run for the Red and need to focus on a race that is actually happening.

Say it, Do it! {I guess I’ll just train for a marathon for six months}

  • Monday: Spin
  • Tuesday: Strength + Easy Run
  • Wednesday: 3x800m with 400m recovery, 3:00 recovery, repeat intervals
  • Thursday: Recovery Day
  • Friday: Strength
  • Saturday: 10 mile run
  • Sunday: Easy run

Let me know in the comment section what workouts you’re committing to this week or if you’re doing your own SIDI it post this week leave me the link so I can check it out!

    What a bummer about the marathon. The added elevation is certainly a deterrent as well. Oh well, I hope you find a great replacement race. My workout schedule has been on a bit of a hiatus recently due to a new job situation, which is why I haven’t been updating “SIDI” but it should get back on track in a few weeks. Regardless this week, I hope to do at least one Physique 57 class and one Refine method class.

    I’m trying Soul Cycle for the 1st time tomorrow am! I am pumped! Then I am teaching BodyPump Wednesday, Spin Thursday, and BodyPump Friday. Hope to squeeze in a run & yoga for fun! I’m on the hunt for some half marathons to do this summer and a full in the fall!

    Wow, that is unbelievable, Jess! That’s smart to restructure your schedule for a marathon that is actually happening. Which one are you looking at now?

    Last week was a step-back week in terms of workouts (my first triathlon of the season was one week ago, so we eased back into training), so I’m ready to pick up the intensity and get after it this week!

    Wow, after the craziness that was NYC, I can’t imagine having to deal with marathon uncertainty again. I hope you find something that works for you soon!

    I postponed my long run last week so I’m doing it today and moving this weekend’s long run to Sunday to create maximum time between runs. Last week’s mileage was low so working on that this week!

    I hope they figure out what to do with that marathon and continue it instead of cancelling it. You’re really smart to not let it bother you and just get into some training. Sometimes you just have to adjust to the changes and roll with the punches.
