{If you’re new to SIDI here’s some info: At the beginning of each week on FCITC “Say it, Do it” is a chance for us to commit to our workouts for the week by saying them out loud here and keeping each other accountable.}
This week’s workouts were mostly a success. I ended up with an extra spin class on my schedule because sometimes a good sweat is the only thing that can wash the day away.
I felt as though I found my groove a bit more on my long run today, despite cutting it a mile short due to lack of proper hydration. Regardless, I banged out 14 miles on my own and didn’t feel tortured by the mileage. Since the marathon I’m running is small, I think it’s going to be important for me to become self sufficient on long runs and not depend on the company of friends to get me through.
Now let’s take a second to discuss today’s lovely running outfit.
First off, I blame this never ending winter. I only own three pairs of winter running tights and they were all dirty.
Secondly, I blame my new obsession. I swore I’d never wear compression socks and now I won’t run a long run without them. Since wearing them the twinges I’ve had in my calves have gone away. I’m not sure if the socks really help or if it’s the placebo effect. Regardless, I’m really liking how they feel when running. Currently, I’m wearing CEPs during long runs and after long runs for recovery.
Here are the workouts I’m committed to this week:
- Monday: Spin
- Tuesday: Speed + Strength
- Wednesday: Easy 2 miles with Lululemon
- Thursday: Tempo ( 2 mile warm-up, 3 miles at half marathon pace, 2 mile cool-down)
- Friday: Soul Cycle or just strength
- Saturday: Long Run
- Sunday: Recovery Run
If you live or work in NYC I’m coaching run club this Wednesday night at E.66th Street Lululemon. I’d love to see you there (though be warned every time I coach there’s bad weather)!
Do you run in compression socks?
What’s something related to running you swore you’d never do but do now?
What workouts are you committed to this week?
Do you wear compression socks while running?
Shannon @ Mon Amour says
I haven’t done any long runs in compression socks but I have done shorter easier runs and speedwork in them and love them. I like them even more for after workouts. My calves used to get really tight/swollen but wearing compression socks has completely eliminated that

I just finished planning my workouts for the week on my google calendar – I felt like you 🙂
Jess says
Love it!

SO GLAD I read this post today, because, well….I’ve started running again. This time, however, my knee pain is gone but my calves are killing me! Someone suggested compression socks, but….I don’t know if I really need them. I got out my foam roller, and it’s helping…but perhaps the compression socks will have to be my next move!
Jess says
It might help. I also have some dynamic calf stretches on youtube that my physical therapist has me do before and after my runs.
Jen O says
Monday – Core work + pushups
Tuesday – 6 mi progression run
Wed – 4 mi tempo + vinyasa yoga
Thurs – 3 mi + core/strength
Fri – off
Saturday – 2-3 mile east
Sunday – Coogan’s 5k!
I don’t own/run in compression socks, but I’ve wanted to get them for awhile because I like them in bright colors 🙂
Jess says
I love Coogan’s! Have fun at the race!
Julie @ Sweetly Balanced says
I really need to plan out my workouts like this!! I try it sometimes, but never follow through!! Are there any Lululemon run clubs closer to Soho or the West Village?? My office is over there and the east side is so far for me!
Jess says
I think the Soho store also hosts run club on Wednesday night. Check out the lululemon website or try calling the store.
Nichole says
I run in compression socks in the winter – I feel too restricted when it’s warm out.
This weather is crazy! Never know how to dress sometimes:)
Jen says
I just got my first pair of compression socks and used them for recovery after Friday’s 11 mile run. Really liking them so far!
My goals for this week are to watch my hamstring, which seems to be giving me some pain, but otherwise keep up my training plan for the NYC Half.

Gabby @ Marathons and Macarons says
I might join you at Run Club on Wednesday! How many miles will you be running?
Jess says
I’m not sure what the total mileage will be but we’re doing between 4-6 400m repeats with 400m recover between each. Total mileage will probably be around 4 miles.
Julie says
I love my compression sleeves! I have both socks and sleeves, but I wear the sleeves more often (my feet get really hot). I mostly wear them after long runs unless it’s reeeeeally cold out. I think they help a lot with my legs feeling good after a long run, though I initially bought them to combat shin splints.
Emily @ FitMamaInTheCity says
I swore I would never wear a running skirt, but now I’m all about them in the Summer. It’s just an amazing girly feeling that comes with wearing them
Jess says
I love running skirts!

I wish I lived in the City purely so I could be apart of a running group. MY Upstate-NY small town doesn’t have one yet… though I’m trying for it. Have fun wed!!
Jess says
You should start one!
Sana says
I thought foam rolling was weird, and now I can’t imagine not doing it after I run!
Gina says
I love my compression socks! I wear the CEP ones as well. I wear them for most of my long runs and races. In addition to my calves feeling better I also just like how they look! Have you tried the sleeves? I haven’t because it seems simpler to just wear the socks vs. having to worry about socks & sleeves, but I’m curious if anyone on here as found any benefit. Thanks!
Carrie @ Fitness and Frozen Grapes says
I LOVE my CEP compression calf sleeves! I struggled through my long runs this summer, so I finally bought a pair. Like you wrote, Jess, it might be the placebo effect, but I feel like they’ve helped keep my calves happy. 🙂 I also wear them after brick workouts for recovery.
Susan - Nurse on the Run says
Haha I ran with red compressions socks and capris when I was home for Christmas since SILLY ME thought it’d be warm enough in Chicago for capris. Fail…
