A lesson learned in 2012 is that although things don’t always go according to plan it doesn’t mean having to let go of my plans.
Especially if that plan is to train hard, run hard, and have the best marathon finishing time I’m capable of. It was my goal for 2011 and 2012. And yes, it will yet again be my goal for 2013.
On Friday night I stayed up late sketching out two marathon training plans. One for the L.A. Marathon and one for Eugene. After realizing how impatient I was to get back on the training wagon, I had decided to register for L.A.
But then, I ran a race today (and by ran I mean I didn’t “race” it) and my hamstring revolted at the idea of jumping right back into marathon training. Since L.A. is in March, that meant my second choice was the obvious pick.
Running Eugene will give me an extra month to work on this chronic hamstring issue, build some strength and give it a break.
I’m also super excited that Lora, Meggie, Jocelyn will be in Eugene.
Let the dream chasing continue in Track Town.

Fantastic! From an Oregonian – you’ve picked a great running state! Personally, I’d go for Portland over Eugene, but Eugene is a great town with an incredible running community!
