Richmond Bound

Let’s talk about the important things first. If you need help spreading the word about volunteer opportunities in the areas hit by Sandy or know of specific needs, please contact me via, email, FB, Twitter or leave a comment somewhere on my blog and I’ll do what I can to spread the word. Hopefully, my 11,000 twitter friends can help spread the word also!

Stuck at home nursing a bad cold, I’ve been following the communities that are closest to my heart as they’ve shown the world that runners are good, generous people. I hope the naysayers are finally biting their tongues. If you want to see what just a few thousand runners were up to on Staten Island check out the New York Runners in Support of Staten Island Facebook page.

In less important news, I now have a new countdown clock.

I have no idea how a four week taper is going to work or if it’s going to work at all. I would have done a longish run today, but with this cold I assumed no running was probably best. I’ll most likely try to do some short speed sessions this week.

Anyhow, this cold is making me loose my mind at the moment so I’m putting myself to bed.

I hope you all had a lovely New York City Marathon Sunday no matter what you were doing!

Good luck, Jess! You will be wonderful in Richmond! It would be kind of funny if there were loads of PRs in Richmond and it led to a new normal of a four week taper. Will you be back in time for Run Book Club or will it be postponed?

Hope you feel better, Jess! I went to Staten Island yesterday with the group, and wow, what a humbling experience. It was great to be part of a community that used our gift and passion for running to help.

Best of luck with Richmond! I’m sure it will be fabulous and I can not wait to read all about it. In a weird lemonade out of lemons kind of way…it’s kind of cool that a lot of us (including me! Miami January 2013!) will now do these cool other marathons and have these interesting experiences….that otherwise would have never happened. Silver lining, right?

I live in Richmond (and will be running the 8K this Saturday) and I think a lot of people are doing the same thing as you because the number of runners has increased materially. I commend all the runners because I think a majority have had a compassionate attitude about the cancellation. I was at the NYC marathon expo with the company I work for (Health Warrior selling our chia bars) and the energy before the announcement was so amazing; afterwards, I could feel the heartbreak. But the selflessness in the past few days has been inspiring.

We will be at the Richmond expo as well, so come by and see us!

I stopped by your booth in NYC! If I get there in time to get to the expo I’ll be sure to say hi.
