Today, I spent four hours at the NYCM expo, but didn’t get a chance to look around because I was busy hanging out at the Girls on the Run booth. I did however see Dori, Lauren and Gia when they stopped by the booth after picking up their marathon bibs. It was so great to see their excited faces.
If you’re looking for a way to get involved with GIrls on the Run NYC, you sign-up here to be a race buddy at our winter 5k on December 10th. I’d love to see you all out there! The girls are amazing!
On my commute this week I’ve read every word of the NYCM Media Guide. This race has a rich history and I love knowing so much about what goes into the race.
Check out these fun facts:
- The estimated economic impact of the 2010 NYCM is $340,000,000.
- Amount of money raised by the New York Road Runner’s Team for Kids $4 million plus.
- There are 368 portable toilets on the course (which doesn’t seem like a lot).
- At the start in Staten Island 17,000 pounds of discarded clothing are donated to charity.
- An estimated 2,300,000 paper cups will be used at the race.
- There are 220 tubs of vaseline along the course route at medical aid tents.
So much goes into getting 40,000 people across the finish line.
*Tomorrow, I’m having lunch with an Olympian and I’ll tell you all about it!

So great seeing you today!!! I thought you weren’t getting there until later so it was such a nice surprise.

OH! I didn’t even realize that was you yesterday at the booth! (we’ve never met but I follow your blog ever since the GOTR race in June!) I must have been in such a marathon fog that it didn’t register.
Would have loved to have officially met you in person. Next time!
Jess says
That’s too funny! Hopefully, we’ll meet in person soon!
