A Just in Case Race

Today, I ran my 9th New York Road Runner’s race of the year the Joe Kleinerman 10k. It was the first super cold run of the year. The temperature was 30 degrees with a windchill of 21. BRRR!!

The reason I ran today was two fold.

#1) I haven’t ran any longer than 5 miles since August.

#2) To complete the 9+1 for guaranteed entry into the 2011 New York City Marathon.

Now don’t go thinking I’m actually planning on running NYCM next year, I just want the option to run. I had completed 8 races, so why not run a ninth in order to get automatic entry…. just in case.

Here are my boring stats from today (including one pit stop at mile three):

I do want to run a marathon! I decided to take up running in order to be able to run a marathon (hey, you’ve got to start somewhere!). It’s on my bucket list and it’s something I want to achieve in 2012. I hope to check off a half (or two!) in 2011.

Yes! I want to run the NYC marathon! I entered the lottery this year so I can get some lotto losses under my belt and get automatic entry in 3 years! (I figure that’s enough training time! :)) And if I win before that I’ll just take it as the universe’s way of telling me it’s my time.

Good for you! It was brutal this weekend with the wind. Oh, yes a few marathons and just like you, I liked having the option to run or not each year!

I’ve done a half. And I’m *planning* on running the Chicago Marathon next year. My hip and foot make me a bit nervous though.
    Nice job on the 10k!

Great run! I ran a 7-mile relay leg of the CIM marathon yesterday and it was a good opportunity to get a feel for the marathon scene, check out other runners and see if I could picture myself doing an entire one in the future. I’m still torn on that, I’ll decide after completing another half in March.

That also gives you the option to defer. I have to say, some fabulous ladies (bloggers and readers) will be running next year!

I used to run 5K’s way back when but when I run to win, I was hurting “things” so I don’t race anymore & at my age, I just watch what I am doing.. I do my running, & StepMill & lots of other stuff & the weights that I love!!!! 🙂

    Congrats to you!

I’m contemplating doing the Detroit Marathon next fall… I’m a bit scared to commit though.
