The “Take a Day Off Dilemma”

Truth: Some weeks there is nothing I love more than taking a day or two off from working out. At times rest days are tastier than a cupcake from my favorite Upper East Side bakery.

Truth: Some weeks I despise rest days. I know I need it. I take them and yet my legs no matter how tired they are, yearn to run, lunge or spin. My brain seeks relief from the thoughts that weigh me down in the form of exercise endorphins.

Yet, I take that rest day even if it means I’m totally breaking my workout commitments for the week. Rest can be more important than working out at times, no matter how loudly my brain screams for it’s endorphin fix. Today has been one of these types of days.

Random Truth: I’ve had my outfit planned for the More/Fitness Magazine 1/2 since January because racing feels a bit like a big deal deserving of a put together outfit.

What are you excited about this week? Do you plan outfits for races? Am I weird? (okay, don’t answer that one. i already know the answer.)

I always plan outfits for races in my head, and then I get lazy and never follow through. That’s probably weirder than planning them and actually wearing them.

I’m excited because I just discovered Chicago has stand-up paddleboard yoga! It doesn’t start until June but I think I’ll do this all the time this summer.

That sounds amazing! I don’t think I could do it, but I would love to try!

I SHOULD plan my race day outfits but I usually wait until the last minute — which is very unlike me the self-professed Type A-er that I am. BUT I do know that when I run Chicago and my first marathon? You better BELIEVE that race day outfit will be well-planned AND that it’ll be killer 😉

What am I excited for? That I’m teaching a bunch of barre n9ne classes next week as we’re opening our second location and I couldn’t be happier! I LOVE teaching!!! 🙂

Planning outfits is very important. I find that I perform better if I think I look cute. Also, I’m kinda over bloody feet and underarms. While I don’t have a race coming up anytime soon, I’ve already picked out running outfit and tri suit I’m going to pick up as a reward for finishing my PhD.

I will admit that on my “Rest days” I still do a little something; like walk outside, or do a quick Jillian Michael’s tape, or even go for a long bike ride. I really feel down when I don’ workout! But on my rest days I try to enjoy the workout more, and do it for fun rather than a workout….haha, maybe I’m the weird one!

I hear ya, but you aren’t weird! I usually walk a few miles on my rest days.

I sometimes buy something new for the race, you know bc I deserve it:)

I have such a hard time taking a day off. I’ll end up walking my poor pup forever, can’t sit still!

Lulu cool racerback (dark grey) and black skirt. I wanted to be all stealth like a ninja and wear black, but didn’t have black tank that I like enough to run in for two hours.
