The Happiest Place on Earth

After visiting Philly for the first time last weekend, I’m convinced this is one of the happiest places in the world.

As soon as I stepped off the Bolt Bus and onto the streets of Philadelphia, I could hear the Rocky theme song being played.* As someone who is always motivated by the heart of an athlete, getting to the “Rocky Steps” aka the Philadelphia Museum of Art was my number one goal for the weekend.

Sitting at the top of the stairs, I watched people of all ages run up the stairs throwing punches and imitating Rocky’s victorious celebration at the top. A few even yelled “Adrianne” as they climbed the stairs.

As I sat there observing the other visitors, I was amazed by the impact a movie from 35 year ago still has had on the human spirit.

I guess I’ve figured out what movie to watch this weekend when lounging around after my long run.

Happy Weekend!

*the song was only being played in my head, not out loud on the streets of Philly.

While I have strong opinions that Philly itself is not the happiest place on Earth, sitting on the streets of the Art Museum is definitely awesome. I did that a couple years ago and watched people run up and down…and TONS of weddings!

You should come down to Philly on a Tuesday sometime– Fairmount Running Club hosts an AWESOME (and free!) workout that involves repeats of the stairs alternating with plyometric exercises. It’s a hard workout, but a super nice group of people. Everyone pushes themselves at their own pace.
