My absolute favorite and most memorable moment would have to be 8 miles in The 2012 Philadelphia Rock & Roll 1/2 Marathon. I went into that race with the most minimal training (running only 6 miles 3 weeks prior), and entered at the expo with a push from the regional vice president at my company. My dad had passed away 6 months prior from diabetes and I was inspired to run because he couldn’t. At eight miles in I had just began to feel like I couldn’t go any further. I prayed for God to have my dad guide me and push me to finish. Not only did I find energy, but I had become uplifted. I finished in 2:09. To this day I firmly believe my dad was with me for that run. It was a first half for me and the most amazing spiritual experience I will never forget. I’m so proud of that day! I’ve since completed my first marathon.

My favorite run happy moment was a week ago, when I set a PR in the 5K distance by 4 minutes. I started running again 8 months ago and have been training hard and smart- I was able to shave 10 minutes off of my half marathon time this fall, setting a PR for that, but the 5K last week was the first time I mentally felt strong and physically pushed myself harder than I thought I was capable of. It gives me confidence that 2014 will be the best running year ever!

My second half marathon of the fall- I PR’ed in my first half, and ran my second half coming off an injury. I ran it with a friend, for fun, and we finished with huge smiles on our faces. It was the first race I ran where I wasn’t anxious or stressed, and just enjoyed a great run in a great city with a great friend (amid 10s of thousands of other people, of course)!

My favorite run happy moment of the year: May 5th, 2013. Getting to the finish line of the New Jersey Marathon in a mental fog, finishing my second marathon. I qualified for Boston by a long shot, set a massive PR, and… the best part of the moment, was that my best running friend rolled in about 2 minutes later. We’re going to Boston for the first time, together!! πŸ™‚

My favorite run happy moment of this year actually came when I was tired and in a lot of pain. I hurt my knee at a rock climbing competition the day before I was scheduled to run a 20k that I had undertrained for. Not a good combination. It was drizzling and gross out and I was frustrated with my time and lack of endurance. And then I missed mile 9. I went from mile 8 to mile 10, just like that. I was so happy and excited that every mile no longer seemed like a chore and I was able to kick it into high gear and finish strong!

My favorite run happy moment of 2013 was qualifying for Boston. It was an amazing accomplishment that pushed me beyond my comfort zone.
