Say it, Do it! {When it Becomes Routine}

{If you’re new to SIDI here’s some info: At the beginning of each week on FCITC “Say it, Do it” is a chance for us to commit to our workouts for the week by saying them out loud here and keeping each other accountable.}

This week I feel like I’ve found my stride. I didn’t overexert myself teaching classes, didn’t feel injured and managed to do all of my planned workouts (just on different days). I feel like my training schedule is becoming more routine and less hodge podge-ish. Additionally, the weather broke after a few crazy storms which helped to make running feel a little less taxing.

The thing I need to work on right now is my mental game during long runs. I don’t know what it is wrong with my mind, but I struggle with quietening the negative thoughts. I’m totally find during speedwork and hill repeats, but the long runs get me every time.

The first six miles of today’s 12-miler were shear torture. When I finally decided that I could control my thoughts the run started to turn around. I think I’m going to have to start doing more mental prep work before my long runs to get my head in the game.

SIDI Week 4 of Marathon Training (in no particular order)

  • Tempo Run (6 miles total, 4 @ tempo pace)
  • Recovery Run 5-6 miles
  • Speedwork: 3×1600 + wu,cu = mileage TBA
  • Long Run: 14 miles
  • One 60 minute spin class
  • Three days of strength/core work

What workouts mentally weigh on you the most? What workouts are you committed to this week?

    I tackled a 10-mile long run on Saturday, and my mental game became a little spotty between miles 5 and 7, but I was able to get back on track for the final push. I have two workouts on the docket for five days this week (it’s triathlon season!), plus an 11-mile long run on Saturday. I’m most excited for the long run–it will be the farthest I’ve ever run!

    It is all about the brain being there with you. Anytime I see intervals or a long run in my training schedule you eye it all week and you have to get excited about it, otherwise your mind gets the best of you.

    Great way to change up your exercise this week!

    I always struggle with the long runs mentally. I’m already stressed out about doing 8.5 miles this week!

    For this week I have the following planned:
    Monday – speedwork (done!)
    Tuesday – Boot Camp
    Wednesday – hills
    Thursday – Boot Camp, Detox Yoga
    Friday/Saturday/Sunday – 8.5 miles, yoga, and rest.

    Tue: 6 miles
    Wed: Physique 57
    Thur: 3 miles
    Fri: Physique 57
    Sat: 11 miles
    Sun: Rest
