5 Things To Do If Rain is the Forecast for Race Day

When it comes to prepping for your goal race there’s one thing you have no control over, the weather. Obsessively, checking weather.com won’t do anything other than add to your race day stress. The best thing you can do is focus on what you can control to get ready for race day.

Truth be told, running in the rain can be harder than running in the cold (check out this Runner’s World article).

Five things to do if rain is in the forecast for race day:

1. Start thinking positively about the rain. Visualize yourself having fun despite the inclement weather. Create a Run Happy pinterst board for extra motivation (Check out my Run Happy board).

2. Separate fact from attitude: As Zen and the Art of Running taught me, realize that the rain is just rain, it isn’t good or bad it’s just what it is.

3. Use body glide on your feet.

running in the rain4. Wear lightweight clothing that won’t be heavy or annoying when it’s wet and a lightweight windproof water resistant jacket.

5. Adjust your goals for your race. If the weather is warm, it’s raining and your race is a short distance you may actually surprise yourself. However, if it’s a longer race, it’s cold and raining or the roads are slippery setting a new goal time for your race based off the challenges of the inclement weather is necessary.

I actually LOVE running in the rain. When it’s warm enough that I don’t feel like i’m frozen, I find the rain to be very cleansing and inspiring. I can’t wait for summer rain!! so close!

I love running but me + rain are not friends. I am a competitive person + if I have a goal I will do it so I would end up wearing light clothing like you said and rocking it! Great post thank you for the inspiration love + shine courtstar

Actually, I prefer running in the rain. I can sustain a very long race when it is raining. I don’t easily get exhausted as if the rain is a blessing to me. 🙂

I really like running in the rain, but it would definitely throw me off in a race. My #1 tip for running in the rain is to wear a hat or visor…keeping the rain out of your eyes makes a HUGE difference in my opinion!

I would also suggest mole skin on your feet where you’ll likely get blisters. Worked wonders for me during the half marathon I ran in the pouring rain…no blisters.

Running in the rain is no problem with me. However, it’s better if it is just a light rain, because it will make you feel more “fresh”. 😉
BTW, great tips, especially using glide on the feet.
    Many thanks.
